Alive and...

Here's an artist's rendering of the ivory-billed woodpecker, a bird thought extinct since sometime in the early part of the 20th century. Apparently there's compelling evidence that the bird remains extant.

After seeing the ivory-bill fly across their sight path, one of the researchers broke down and started weeping.

A "missing" family of mountain gorillas has also reappeared in Uganda's Mgahinga National Park. They disappeared five months ago sparking Ugandan accusations of Rwandan primate napping.

They had two new additions to the family when they returned.

Here, at my desk at work, I've affixed a picture of my dachshund to the computer. He's on his back and looking directly into the camera-- a perfect image of contentedness. And then there are the D-ster's dainty little hands in the picture, caressing that little boy dog. Those hands and that dog now reside in Williamsburg in Brooklyn.

I'm still in LA. In place of the dachshund, I have Lexapro; in place of those hands, a therapist. I'm not dead yet.
